Open Brew for Irish Open Data Projects

Posted by Jason Roe on Nov 6, 2013 8:10:36 PM

Open brew is not about brewing in the beer sense. Its about helping to create the right environment and mix to produce some really tasty Open Data projects.

“Open Brew is a movement for open data developers and creatives who are focusing on making open data projects happen.”

[Update Dec 2013] We ran the first Open Brew event in Nov 2013 and it was a bit of a flop! Check out Code For Ireland for a list of open data projects.

Airbnb Ireland for Irish Bank Holiday Deals

Posted by Jason Roe on Aug 1, 2013 1:12:05 PM

Last week, I was having a think about how the new roe clan might spend a long weekend in Ireland. With all of the recent great weather, the thought of the outdoors and some inner voice telling me to light a fire and cinder food on a barbecue was taking over. I some how got it into my head that a camping weekend might be a fun way to relax and release my inner caveman.

I started by scoured the internet, looking for August Bank Holiday special offers. There were a loads of great offers floating around but with such last minute planning, I had no hope of finding availability.

If you haven't done so already make sure to signup to Airbnb. They have some great discounts for new users.

Irish Beer Festival for Craft Beer in Ireland

Posted by Jason Roe on Sep 25, 2011 4:30:41 AM

Bruce Mansour of Make it Happen, Cormac O'Dwyer from Dungarvan Brewing Company and Stephen Clinch of Trouble Brewing

Its the morning after the night before. I just woke up with only a slightly groggy head after sampling some of Ireland's finest craft beers at the inaugural Irish Craft Beer Festival. The event is being held this weekend, 23 rd - 25th September 2011. There were some well known brands such as The Porter House, O'Haras and Messrs Maguire's and a few new brands (to me) such as Dunvgarvan Brewing Company, White Gypsy and BrewEyed Blonde. Check out the brewers list.

Blogger Twitter Whatever, September 22nd 2011

Posted by Jason Roe on Aug 19, 2011 9:20:51 AM

Its been April since our last meetup (I've been working flat out!).. so as part of the latest round of ad-hoc meet-ups in Dublin (Ireland) .. we decided to run another Blogger-Twitter-Whatever (BTW) meetup.

The plan is to meet up 7pm on Thursday 22nd September in Rúta, King St North, Dublin.  There will be food, drinks (free pints of the black stuff) and well .. whatever!

The meetup is quite informal, there is no agenda and no presentations. People just meet up, chat, (some people) network and everyone has a good time! It would be great if you could invite some friends to register. :P more the merrier!  I'd really appreciate if everyone could give BTW meetup a big push!

New year, new office!

Posted by Jason Roe on Jan 6, 2011 12:33:20 AM

It's that time of year .. The Christmas break is over and everyone is getting back to what they do best. By the sound of it, the vast majority of people in Ireland had a miserable Christmas. Between the bad weather, the lack of water and the countries transport grinding to a halt Christmas was bound to be a bit colorful for you in some way or another!

That said, everyone I've talked to seems to think 2011 will be a good year.. or at least better than last year. With all the doom and gloom over the last while, its nice to hear people being so up beat. I have a great feeling about this year!

Before Christmas, I had the pleasure of joining a new coworking space in Dublin called Amworks. The Amworks space has been up and running for about a year now, so its been around a while. If you haven't heard of the coworking concept before you should pop over to coworking.ie. Its a bit like an office share but on steroids (not in a sweaty body builder way).
